Coven
Jusqu’en 2022, parallèlement à son travail de création, elle y accueille des résidences artistiques dans le cadre du projet Gang of Witches.
À partir de 2023, elle commence à investir le lieu comme une œuvre à part entière.
Le journal d’individuation porté jusque-là par ses œuvres change d’échelle et devient un monde qu’elle habite et transforme en continu.
La scénographie organise la circulation d’une séquence à l’autre.
Elle confronte l’organicité des formes à une épure radicale, rythmée par l’alternance de zones noires et de zones blanches.
Elle crée avec les œuvres, les zones de nature, les seuils, le bâtiment, les vides et les circulations, une expérience à 360°.
Les espaces se succèdent comme les chapitres d’un récit archétypal, instaurant une temporalité lente qui permet un état de réceptivité sensorielle et psychique.
Until 2022, alongside her creative work, she hosted artist residencies there as part of the Gang of Witches project.
Starting in 2023, she began to treat the space as a work of art in its own right.
The journey of individuation previously embodied in her works shifted in scale, becoming a world she inhabits and continually transforms.
The scenography guides the movement from one sequence to the next.
It juxtaposes organic forms with the a radically minimalist aesthetic, punctuated by the alternation of black and white zones.
Together with the artworks, the areas of nature, thresholds, the building, the voids, and the circulation paths, it creates a 360-degree experience.
The spaces follow one another like the chapters of an archetypal narrative, establishing a slow temporality that fosters a state of sensory and psychic receptivity.

En plaçant dès son arrivée le lieu sous la protection de Tanit, déesse tutélaire d’Ibiza, l’artiste inscrit la souveraineté féminine au cœur de la structure symbolique du Coven.
Elle y déploie une constellation méditerranéenne de déesses et de figures mythologiques féminines.
La fragmentation progressive de leur puissance par les cultures patriarcales s’y trouve mise en lumière.
Paola Hivelin invite Ciou à collaborer à ce travail de rassemblement et de mémoire, qui contribue à redonner unité et force à un imaginaire spirituel au féminin.
Après une première phase d’apprivoisement du lieu, Paola Hivelin noue une relation avec le vivant en exposant aux intempéries certaines de ses créations.
Ce geste d’offrande ouvre une boucle d’altération, de reprise et d’harmonisation, et marque l’entrée de l’œuvre-monde dans le cycle de la vie et de la mort.
Dans un second temps, elle adopte une approche anthropomorphique de la forêt. En révélant les visages de l’être végétal immense au milieu duquel elle vit, elle déplace la perception même de la nature et en souligne la présence.
Construit sur un ancien site de charbonnage et utilisé auparavant comme lieu de villégiature, le Coven repose désormais sur un modèle économique non spéculatif.
Un budget dédié finance une équipe salariée, des collaborations ponctuelles, l’entretien saisonnier du site et des aménagements réguliers visant à réduire l’impact environnemental.
Le Coven est une œuvre monumentale non transactionnelle.
Il se laisse entrevoir depuis un sentier de randonnée.
Un QR code inscrit à l’entrée permet d’en suivre la trace en ligne.
Il ne se donne pas comme un objet à consommer, mais comme une présence dont la rencontre est possible.
Un projet éditorial, “The Coven Diaries”, est en cours.
By placing the site under the protection of Tanit, the patron goddess of Ibiza, upon her arrival, the artist enshrines feminine sovereignty at the heart of the Coven’s symbolic structure.
There, she unfolds a Mediterranean constellation of goddesses and mythological female figures.
The gradual fragmentation of their power by patriarchal cultures is brought to light here.
Paola Hivelin invites Ciou to collaborate in this work of gathering and remembrance, which helps restore unity and force to a feminine spiritual imagination.
After an initial phase of familiarisation with the site, Paola Hivelin establishes a relationship with the living world by exposing some of her creations to the elements.
This act of offering sets in motion a cycle of alteration, reworking, and harmonization, marking the entry of the artwork-world into the cycle of life and death.
In a second phase, she adopts an anthropomorphic approach to the forest. By revealing the faces of the immense vegetal being in whose midst she lives, she shifts the very perception of nature and highlights its presence.
Built on a former charcoal kiln site and previously used as a holiday retreat, the Coven now operates on a non-speculative economic model.
A dedicated budget funds a salaried team, occasional collaborations, seasonal maintenance of the site, and regular developments aimed at reducing environmental impact.
The Coven is a monumental, non-transactional work.
It can be glimpsed at from a hiking trail.
A QR code inscribed at the entrance allows its tracking online.
It does not present itself as an object to be consumed, but as a presence with which an encounter is possible.
